  • Memorial Day + Weekend Essentials

Memorial day is only 3 weeks away! It is going to be here before we know it. As for most, spring has already sprung. Although in Minnesota... spring has just arrived. I will share with you a few of my go to things for the special weekend!

Every year, no matter how hard I try, I always manage to get sunburned. One of my go to products is the Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15. I am currently starting to mix my winter and summer shade together. Does anyone else do this? I also manage to keep a hat with me. I keep seeing my favorite bloggers wearing this summer hat! As the day goes on and the sun gets hotter we always need a good hair tie. I love these Bobble hair ties, you can create the most beautiful effortless hair styles with them. (no I am not just saying that because I am a hair stylist lol). To finish off all of my hair styles I am still obsessing over the Air Control hair spray. I don't know if I will ever use anything else. It is the perfect light hold hair spray that also is amazing when you spray on your ends before you curl them!

Don't forget your favorite refreshing beverage + remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom!

    Heres to a beautiful summer!

    Xo, Jessica

  • Prom 2018 Do's + Don'ts

Prom is less than 9 weeks away and less for some! Here are some simple do's and don'ts for prom 2018.

Do purchase your dress in advance. Purchasing in the late winter months is a great idea because when May comes around, no one will have your dress! You also wont be running around like crazy finding the perfect dress.

DON'T try anything new the day before. If you are really into having amazing lash extentions get them done 2-3 weeks prior to your big day. This way you can see how they feel. Another tip get a spray tan more than 1 day in advanced especially if you have never had one done before. Plan accordingly and try anything new a few days/weeks in advanced

Do go glam! Do something you have never done before weather its a new hair style or a fun make up application. This is your time to live it up, so why not go out with a BANG.

DO go to your hair and makeup appointment prepared. Make sure to have a button up on + a clean face. Don't forget photos to show your stylist and make up artist just what your vision is!

DON'T over do it. You want to be glam but don't go full on. You will want to stick to one or two trends but keep the rest timeless. You won't regret looking back at your insta 10 years from now.

Do have a plan. Make sure you go off your checklist and plan accordingly.

DON'T forget to have a good time + take lots of pics!!!

    Cheers! Jessica

Headbands have been seen everywhere on the runway this season! We haven't seen them in a while but they are a great way to dress up any hair style! Pink Pewter Headbands - these headbands are beautiful and never loose their stretch. If your feeling crafty, you could stop by a local craft store and pick up a roll of velvet ribbon! Velvet is all the rage this season!

The sleek/ wet look has made its way back into the styling trends. To acheive this look you will need Aveda Confixor

Relaxed curls / natural curls is the newest style for 2018. We thought 2017 had the most relaxed curls we have ever seen but we were wrong! Try using the Aveda Texture Tonic

On the otherside of the spectrom some of the hair cuts we are seeing this year are very 'short' bobs, the revamped 'bowl' cut and natural lengths. I am sensing a 60's vibe making its come back!!!

    Cheers to 2018!

  • Fresh Skin for a Fresh Year

Welcome Beauty Blogger Readers & Cheers to 2018!

Today on the blog I wanted to share some tips and tricks to keeping your skin free of acne. I will be sharing some tips and tricks as well as why you may break out in certain areas over others!

Forehead - Do you use alot of dry shampoo? Wear a hat? These may be a couple of reasons why you get acne on your forehead. This is also an area where you 'wear' your stress. Try to avoid potato chips + candy. Your forehead is linked to your digestive system so what you eat wears on your face and when your stressed, that also shows!

Nose - your nose is connected to your heart. When you notice blemishes, you may need to reduce your spicy food's intake. Also check your make up expiration dates. This area of your face has a lot of dilated pores and makes it more likely to have things 'sit' in your pores making you break out more. Good foods to help this area are good fats such as avacado, fish oil + flaxseed.

Between Brows - Typically the first area to show if you have a food allergy such as lactose.

Cheeks - When was your phone last cleaned? When was the last time you washed your make-up brushes? Some may answer, "I can't remember" and others might say, " I have never washed them before." All in all, it is safe to say they could use a cleaning.

Chin + Jaw line - Hormonal imbalance aka PMS or the time of the month. The best way to decrease these blemishes is geting a good night of sleep. Drink lots of water. Eating leafy veggies and keeping your skin clean.

Below I have listed a couple of my favorite skin care regiments

    Step 1. Wash your face

Step 2. Dry brush your face and apply the Aveda Oleation Oil

Step 3. Apply Calm, Bright or Firm Aveda Concentrate to your skin

Step 4. Apply BK Soft Creme or BK Rich Creme to your skin

Step 5. Apply Avedas Tinted mosturizer with your desired color

Step 6. For extra dryness this winter apply the Aveda Beautifying Oil to skin at night

Cheers to a New Year + New Skin!

  • Shellac Mani vs. Regular Mani

    by Jessica Rank

The number one question we receive about nails is what is the difference between a Shellac Manicure and a regular Manicure?

Shellac manicures are longer lasting and a more durable choice. They are not as damaging to your nails compared to Acrylic manicures. Shellac is a mix between regular nail polish and a gel polish. The polish is cured under a LED light where it dries instantly! The Shellac polish even helps your nails grow because it creates a thicker base on your nails.

Shellac benefits everyone; whether you are getting ready for a special event, vacation or just bi-weekly maintenance. Shellac polish keeps its sine and lasts atleast two weeks, sometimes longer! The only down fall is that it grows out with the nail. If not properly removed, you can potentially damage the nail bed by picking or peeling it off.

Regular manicures last anywhere from a day to about three days without chipping. Unless you are very careful with your hands, have a maid or you only want the color to last you the weekend, regular manicures would not be beneficial for you. Compared to using the Shellac polish, where you can instantly walk out to your car and go as soon as your nails are finished, if you were to do this with regular polish, you could accidentally nick your nail on your door handle (even after sitting to dry for 10+ minutes) and your mani is instantly ruined. Whether your hands are constantly submerged in water, your busy taking care of your family or you spend a lot of time in the garden, whatever it is, you are more at risk to chip your nails with regular nail polish!

All in all, Shellac Manicures are the way to go! We offer a variety of colors to choose from and you can mix and match to create your own colors.

  • Damaged Hair -- I care!

    Damaged hair - I care

    Jessica Rank

Ever wonder what makes your hair damaged? Is it that heavy purse that is always on your right shoulder pulling your hair, causing it to break? Is it breaking because you go to bed with your hair wet, tie it into a messy bun? Is it because you don't wear a hat when your out in the sun/ swimming in a pool? Or is it everytime you remove a pony tail a clump of hair is tangled up in your hair tie?

There are many reasons why our hair is damaged.

Luckily there are many lifestyle changes we can do to help prevent breakage.

Replace your pillow case with a silk or satin pillow case

Our hair tends to pull and drag more on regular pillow cases so invest in a satin pillow case for a lower cost or a higher end silk pillow case. Both work great! I listest a couple places to find them!

     Silk pillow case found here

    Satin pillow case found here

Now that pesky purse of ours that always sits on our right shoulder (or your left)

I have made it a point to always lift my hair away from my strap now subconsciously remembering that I need to move my hair from underneath the strap so it isn't tugging and pulling my hair! Make it a habit.

Nothing's worse than having to wash your hair let alone drying it. The problem with going to bed with wet hair is our hair has % more elasticity when it's wet vs. dry hair has % elasticity making it way for our hair to stretch pull and break as we are sleeping with wet hair. Try to was hair earlier in the night so it is dry before bed or if you must get a soft headband to keep pulled away at night vs using a binder this way you don't wake up with a rats nest in the morning and this way we won't pull out all that hair!

This two in one soft head band is great for sleeping in and washing your face

It's almost summer time here in Minnesota, which means more days in the sun and on the lake. We can visibly see what the sun does to our skin if we don't wear sunscreen. Now imagine what happens when we don't protect our hair! A couple tips for summer -

That floppy hat you always wanted to rock found here

These amazing hair ties to keep your hair from blowing in the wind

Sun care hair care found at Revive Salon!

Last but not least hot tools (curling iron, flat iron, blow dryer etc.)

Turn down the tempeture and use a thermal heat spray like the New Aveda Shampure Thermal Conditioning spray or the Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair that adds  up to 425 degrees of protectant and protein to help strengthen your hair!

    Hope this helps 😊
